What motivated you to start Street slave?
I am a follower of Jesus and a student of the Bible, about 10 years ago as I reading the book of Matthew it shook me to the core of my being, in this section Jesus was speaking to his disciples about the description of the last judgment.

When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory, And before him shall be gathered all nations and he will separate them one from another, as a shepherd dividing his sheep from the goats, And he will set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.

Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, you blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry, and you gave me meat, I was thirsty, and you gave me drink. I was a stranger, and you took me in, Naked and you clothed me. I was sick, and you visited me. I was in prison, and you came unto me.

Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we you hungered, and fed you? Alternatively, thirsty, and gave you drink? , When saw we you a stranger, and took you in? Alternatively, naked, and clothed you? Or when saw we you sick, or in prison, and came unto you? And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as you have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, you have done it unto me.

Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, you cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels. Why did this passage shock you?
I realized that while I called my self a Christian and spent many years in Church and studying the Bible, I was not doing what Jesus commanded us to do. Like most people I saw people hurting, hungry and lonely and yet I was not doing anything about it. The passage convicted me that I was only a Christian in name, not in deeds and from the above passage, I did not like my future.

How did you pick the Name?
The Name street slave comes from the experience I had of being homeless and the realization that once you are in the position of homelessness and living on the street you are a slave in the since that poverty becomes your master, forcing a person to give up there right to choose, even stripping you of ability to make a better choice if given the opportunity. I found it interesting while studying slavery in history, that when the slaves where freed that some stayed with their masters because there was a realization that even after freedom was won they still could not change their situation, because of poverty their choices where limited.

What is the goal for street slave?
Street Slave has two goals, first is to raise the awareness of homelessness and focus of the root causes that lead to homelessness in an attempt to take away the stigma and apathy that people have for the homeless. The second is to give one on one support and hope to the people that we Interview, while motivating the local Churches to take up the responsibility for their part in the solution.

What other plans do you have for Street Slave?
I would like to see street slave become a provider of not only hope, but effective provider of resources as well. I plan to provide a method where we select a person or family and meet there long term needs. While giving the donors of street slave the assurance the their money is used as it was intended, I have found that people are generous and want to help, but just aren’t sure where to start or if it makes a difference. as an example if we find some one needs a car to get to work, a donor could request that there money be used to purchase a car, and we would video the person receiving the car we in turn would send the video and a copy of the receipts’ and paper work back to the donor as proof.
